2,200 vehicle thefts in 22 days. Chicago crime skyrockets in 2023. – Wirepoints

By: Matt Rosenberg

“Crime is coming down gradually in the city,” Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker said at the World Economic Forum recently in Davos, Switzerland. Except it’s not.

Major reported crimes in Chicago in 2022 were 41% higher than in 2021 and 33 percent more than 2019. Versus the pre-George Floyd baseline of 2019 murder, robbery, theft, motor vehicle theft and shooting incidents for Chicago in 2022 were all up notably. But it’s worse than that. New major-crimes data for Chicago is out, covering the first three weeks of 2023. And what a three weeks it’s been.

The numbers show that overall reported major crimes through January 22 in the new year are 61% higher than the same span in 2022, and 97% greater than in 2021.

There’ve been a stunning 2,169 motor vehicle thefts so far this year in just 22 days. That’s pretty much 100 a day. Through January 22 they are 165 percent greater than in 2022 and 349 percent more than in 2019.

Robbery is up 26 percent versus last year. Aggravated battery has climbed 31 percent.  Burglary is up 11 percent, theft 24 percent, and criminal sexual assault 12 percent.

Murder is down 9 percent versus the same period of 22, from 35 to 32. But the year-to-date 2023 murders in Chicago are 78 percent more than in 2019 when there were 18 at the same juncture.

It’s not yet the end of January, but the Compstat data from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) is clear. Crime in Chicago is not coming down. It’s going up.

Will Pritzker issue a correction of his factually inaccurate, misleading remarks?

Don’t bet on it.

Davos attendees will duly note vs. the city’s advertised crime rate:
It has done nothing of the sort either presently or projected.

Such statements can only emanate from sources possessed of hidden agenda. The wise traveler will do even better to avoid a known pit of certain doom.

The tent I sleep in under the viaduct on Logan Blvd has been repossessed and sold to pay for the pensions of cops, firemen and teachers. Now I’m sleeping in a padded shopping cart behind the Target on Clybourne. I gonna go back to Punta Gorda, Fl where at least its warm. I go by the donut shop where retired cops hang out and sometimes they will throw a half eaten chocolate donut my way. Thank the Lord for their generosity. One of the retired firemen gives me his used underwear, so kind.

Expect the numbers to go much higher every year for as far as the eye can see. Cops have figured out that the job pays the same no matter what the performance is, just like the teachers have figured out education is not what the CPS is about. It is a total free for all in the streets of the Chitty of Chicago.

The county has little political will prosecute young black kids for LARPing the video game Grand Theft Auto. They’ll arrest these kids but they’ll get off with little to no punishment. It’s spreading to the suburbs now too as car thefts and car jackings emanating from the south and west sides increasing significantly. Five arrested in connection with Des Plaines carjacking January 16, 2023 Five underage boys were arrested Sunday in connection with a Des Plaines carjacking and several vehicle burglaries.  According to the Des Plaines Police Department, just after 5 a.m. Sunday, Chicago Police officers responded to the Wyndham… Read more »

Carjacking crew leads suburban police on high-speed chase; two Chicago men in custody January 24, 2023 Barrington police said 27-year-old Tavarius Jackson and 23-year-old Lamont Jackson — who were both on parole for prior offenses — stole multiple vehicles from Motor Werks at 1475 S. Barrington Road on Sunday. Authorities said police responded to a theft reported at the dealership at approximately 8 a.m. Upon arrival, the officer noticed that the security gate was open and set up his squad car across from the dealership’s exit. Barrington police said Tavarius Jackson, who was driving one of the stolen vehicles, then… Read more »

Victim in Oak Lawn attempted carjacking shoots at suspects, police say January 18, 2023 Police are looking for two men they say tried to carjack someone at gunpoint in southwest suburban Oak Lawn Wednesday afternoon. Police said the victim fought back, firing around eight shots at the suspects in the 6500-block of W. 89th Place around 3:30 p.m. The suspects fled the scene in a black Jeep that they later abandoned before getting into a white, older model Dodge Charger and fleeing the area, police said. The Charger appears to have damage on the rear passenger door above the rocker… Read more »

At least 10 thieves caught on video stealing luxury cars from northwest suburban dealership January 13, 2023 SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (CBS) — High-end vehicles were stolen in matter of minutes from a northwest suburban dealership this week – and it was caught on camera. As CBS 2’s Jermont Terry reported, the manager of the dealership said they have made significant changes after the costly car heist on Monday. Early that morning, a sport-utility vehicle pulled into the pre-owned car lot at the Exclusive AutoHaus at 1600 S. Roselle Rd., in an unincorporated area of Cook County between Roselle and Schaumburg. At… Read more »

Memo to criminals: Prosecutors ‘don’t take auto thefts seriously’ as rates skyrocket across U.S. January 1, 2023 [SNIP] Police officers say the number of stolen cars is actually much higher than what’s being reported. Tom Weitzel, who recently retired as the police chief in the Chicago suburb of Riverside, Illinois, said auto theft charges are difficult to prove without eyewitness or video evidence of a suspect in the act of stealing a car. That leaves prosecutors to pursue lesser charges such as criminal trespassing.  “Courts and prosecutors certainly don’t take auto thefts seriously. Unless it’s a carjacking, which is a… Read more »

As bad as it was a year ago, as bad as it is right now, and as bad as it’s going to be in the future the residents of Chicago will still vote for Lori Lightfoot again. I don’t care, let them live in the hell they created. I don’t go to Chicago anymore, nothing there I want to see. Don’t spend my money there, don’t send my kids to school there, don’t shop there. Chicago is dead to me.

There is a relationship between motor vehicle theft and all of the other crimes listed above. Once the thieves can travel around in a stolen car, they are emboldened to commit a multitude of other crimes without fear of identification. Nobody can trace the car back to them. I wish there was more acknowledgement of risk posed by easy access to stolen cars (I’m looking at you, Kia and Hyundai).

You can thank the black caucus for this. They’re the ones that wanted possession of a stolen vehicle changed to trespass of a vehicle. Trespass of a vehicle is essentially a parking ticket and I bet the collection rate on those fines are abysmal.

Chicago could fix crime problem overnight installing HD security cameras city-wide. Try visiting London, Paris, Beijing, basically any international city that considers itself a world class city. But Mayor Lightfoot doesn’t want safety. Instead, she lowers speed cameras threshold to 6 mph overspeed, Lori’s got her prioritie$!

Very interesting statistics, especially the car-jackings! Of course, Mayor Lightfoot is not going to speak about any of this as she has an election coming up. I am certainly not surprised Governor Pritzker is lying about crime coming down when it is actually going up.

How come all these social workers and mental health experts that are supposed to replace cops aren’t helping prevent burglaries, theft, and vehicle thefts, eh, Jamal Green, Chuey Garcia, and Brandon Johnson?

Supposedly a free media would protect everyone from the outlandish lies of politicians. However. as we see today, the Illinois mass media outfits let things like this slide. So much was sacrificed over the years to guarantee freedom of the press yet, today, it would seem that the press is joined at the hip with the politicians. Thankfully here a fair representation of facts is conveyed and hopefully it stays because so many past outlets have been cancelled

A novel idea, have cops do the job they are supposed to do. They are paid big time money and HUGE PENSIONS. Good work if you can get it, high pay and only fill out paperwork. My guess is lots of people do not bother calling them as they do not show up and if they do they do NOTHING but waste your time.

I heard its snowing today, nice. 82° and sunny in Punta Gorda today. Gonna sit by the pool and enjoy the sun. Later I’ll drift over to the marina and take my new boat out for a spin and maybe do a little fishing. By the time I get back the pension check with the new compounded 3% raise should be there. Life is good. I stopped by the homeless shelter the other day and asked if anybody knew you, nope.

Police are not the problem and a post such as this is not helpful. Problem is so called progressive politicians that handcuff police from pursuing criminals and lame prosecutors who refuse to prosecute or otherwise let repeat violent offenders off with a slap on the wrist.

If fewer arrests and prosecutions don’t fix crime, then arrest and prosecute even fewer crimes. If high taxes haven’t corrected the budget problems, then raise taxes even more. Chicago and Illinois liberals always double down on policies that don’t work. A kneejerk reaction would be to call it stupid, but the city/state leaders know what they are doing. For them it’s a game of get what you can, while you can. The only goal is for the game to continue as long as possible. When the game does finally end and the state is in shambles, the liberal leaders won’t… Read more »

A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign

“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
