The Wall Street Journal featured Wirepoints’ crime and criminal justice research in its opinion section this week.
Read the WSJ editorial: McDonald’s and the Crisis of Chicago
Overall crime in the city is up 38% in 2022 over 2021, according to Wirepoints, and a new city policy this summer made it harder for cops to pursue criminals on foot for minor offenses. Mayor Lightfoot has given little support to the beleaguered police force that has shrunk to 11,600 officers from 13,300 in 2019.

A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

Well, Mickey D’s might’ve lasted here a bit longer if they had stayed in Oak Brook, but no, they had to leave. Idk why they did, not sure if they got incentives (buddy deals, etc…), but looking back, it was a stoopid idea. :/
My last month paycheck was 13,500 dollars… All I did was simple 0nline work from comfort at home for 5-7 hours/day that I got from this agency I discovered over the internet and they paid me 95 dollars every hour.

Spot on Cathy. Kinda reminds me of Kelloggs moving from Battle Creek, Michigan to Chicago. What were they thinking……
That land on Oak Brook was worth a ton of money. Perhaps a very short term gain to enhance the stock price, otherwise makes zero sense.
“Ms. Lightfoot and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker will be tempted to dismiss Mr. Kempczinski’s remarks, but they do so at the city’s peril. They might not get another wake-up call as clear as this one.” They are unable to hear. I miss my old life, but not enough to. move back.
It will be quite an accomplishment if Kim, Lori, Brown, Toni and JB manage to drive McDonald’s out of Chicago. Kinda like Detroit without a single autoplant.
Poor Ray Kroc from Oak Park must be spinning in his grave.
Hook him up to an EV charging station, he could probably power 6 or 7 Teslas
Of all the ancient fables, that of the goose that lays golden eggs is almost certainly the one most prized by business people. In the classic version of the tale, a farmer has a goose that each day lays a golden egg. Over time the farmer grows rich, but also greedy. No longer content with a single daily egg, he kills the goose to get all the gold in one fell swoop. But he finds no gold inside and realizes, too late, that he has sacrificed his gold-laying goose for naught.

““Make no mistake . . . McDonald’s commitment to Chicago is not corporate altruism,” Mr. Kempczinski said. “It’s not open ended, it’s not unconditional. As a publicly traded company, our shareholders wouldn’t tolerate that.”
I’m looking forward to hearing/reading the vaporous blather and harrumphery of Little Lori and Governor Tax Cheat’s inevitable responses to the Journal’s editorial and McDonald’s thoughtful criticism.
And here’s an example from the editorial’s comments section that pretty much sums up what everyone (from all over the country) is writing in response to the column:

It’s clear that the only way to stop all this is to defund the police, institute a no bail policy and put in place a George Soros prosecutor. Can’t type anymore gotta get back into my strait jacket.
The whole lot of them is like a bunch of wrecking balls — and they are doing quite well at it
