Chicago Promoted Two Police Officers After Investigators Found They Engaged in Sexual Misconduct – ProPublica

The officers’ promotions this spring were not due to an oversight. Department officials knew about their disciplinary records, but those records could not be considered as the department evaluated their fitness for promotion. The main qualifying factor was their test scores from a two-part exam.

How much is Chicago paying in police misconduct suits this year? I’m sure the actions of these two officers will result in a couple of lawsuits, if not already. Yeah, sure let’s promote them.

Going unreported in this article is whether these two police officers were promoted based on their scores on the Sergeant’s exam or if they were “merit promotions” where someone in the upper management of the Chicago Police Department decided to promote them ahead of people with higher test scores. This is a very important distinction.

Realize this folks, probably 50% or more of sergeant promotions are due to who you have politically sponsoring you. Clout means everything in the police department. From duty assignments to the promotion ladder the more “clout” you have the easier your life on CPD will be. Sin as much as you want, be a do nothing dog of a cop, have scandal surrounding you, fail exams, or don’t even take them, and still be promoted higher and higher. Chicago ain’t ready for reform.

This is normal behavior for so many cops. Just another lawsuit waiting to be filed against the CPD. Taxpayers can cough up more money to settle.
