The fiscal condition of the pension systems of Chicago, its sister governments, Cook County, and the Illinois municipal pension fund deteriorated in 2012 as their collective unfunded obligation rose to more than $42 billion from $37 billion.

The numbers are from the Illinois General Assembly’s non-partisan Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability’s annual overview of the financial status of local government funds released last month and linked here.
