The Goldin Institute and the Chicago Peace Fellows’ Mutual Aid Collaborative chose the anniversary of the assassination of Malcolm X to turn up the heat on big money philanthropies to sign their “Funder’s Pledge.” It’s a promise to acknowledge “current funding practices reinforce disparities” — particularly for Black organizations where, they say, revenues are 24% smaller than their white counterparts.

So tired of this amorphous term equity…
There is no such thing. Either all men (and woMEN) are created equal and, as such deserve equality of opportunity, or they are not… But, equity? That is the result of the individual’s decisions as to what they do with this opportunity. Of course there are differences in opportunity, but, if that were the only determining factor, we would never have the Hunter Bidens of the world. If we decide they are not, maybe the ability to vote can be reconciled to whether one pays income taxes or not?
I was born naked and without equity. I paid attention in school, followed my parent’s guidance, studied hard in college and worked my butt off at every job I have had. I always gave my employers and my bosses more than they assigned me to do. That’s how I earned any equity I might have. By the way, how is equity measured? Is it in pounds, gallons, miles, dollars, nba championships, touchdowns, color of eyes, interceptions or arrests? You can’t talk about equity if there is no standard of measurement.

Will this have the same outstandingly disastrous results that the Salvation Army had with their woke apology program last Christmas? My guess is the donations will soon go way down.

“Maybe in the grants given to the universities, they can state, ‘30% has to go community, versus 2%.’” That’s it. Take the money from those greedy grad students and tenured professors. Now you’re talking! She promised to hold them accountable by launching a report card that “not only says how much you’re funding [and] who you’re funding, but what percentage overall of your entire budget goes to funding.” Doesn’t Charity Navigator already provide this service? Why is she re-inventing the wheel? They should come out and say it: All the charities that benefit minority communities and causes are run by… Read more »

Rectifying racial inequity one NBA game at a time… Smith said the most recent sign of strain in her educational non-profit dedicated to bridging the “racial academic achievement gap” in African American and Latino neighborhoods occurred over the weekend, when the Black Star Project took 40 young people to the NBA All-Star Game in Cleveland.“We didn’t have it in our budget. But we found a way to make it happen. The young people had an amazing time. [But], it was really, really a strain” on the budget, Smith said. According to IRS records, Black Star Project was running a $100,000… Read more »

A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

The proper response, as I read on twitter the other day, is that “EQUITY IS A STUPID PERSON WORD”.
End of conversation with anyone who uses that word
