Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy issued a written ultimatum to both Gov. JB Pritzker and Kevin Duesterhaus, the state director of driver services under Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, and listed several cases of drivers from El Salvador to Ukraine who were in violation of the law. "I need our state partners to understand that they work for the American people, not illegal immigrants who broke the law illegally entering our country and continue to break it by operating massive big rigs without the proper qualifications," Duffy said.
You are wrong Gianoulous. The people of Illinois and The United States do not want illegal immigrants who cannot read or speak English driving a 40 ton moving warehouse at 65mph on the roads of the Country. Period. Do not even try the ” socialist democratic” threat of increased costs. It is BS. Safety of the Citizens is government’s first responsibility. Jackass,
Sanity please

Self-driving cars and trucks are not far away from reality (5 years or so). Right now, this country is short 50,000 plus truck drivers. All drivers are badly needed by the trucking industry.
Truck drivers drive safe. It is drunk drivers who kill. I have driven in many of foreign countries and had no issues. Many foreigners are driving every day in the USA.
Many truck drivers are very good. Unfortunately, the illegal that made a u-turn in florida was not drunk. He couldn’t read english. He never should have been driving – but was – thanks to liberal idiots who apparently think driving a truck isn’t that hard.
Then Illinois should increase the monies going to workforce training programs like truck driving and offer grants/scholarships to interested Illinois citizens instead of handing over a 3.7 million dollar grant to a brewery. (Like we need another brewery!)
Years ago my friend lent her boyfriend the money to go to truck driving school and he had a lucrative career for life. Demanding job but fine for the right person.
The trucking companies should be offering the training not the tax payer. I’m really tiered of the goverments generosity with tax dollars.

We don’t need federal funds. Our gas taxes are keeping our roads like the German autobahn

Please arrest em all until they comply with Federal law. Withholding funds is a given, but the money is already ‘diverted’ from road and bridge repair and construction. While we’re being overtaxed, I don’t think we have one decent road in IL.

Vote Gianoulious out. He’s also complicit in voter fraud by not notifying the voter board when people move, thereby allowing people to vote from multiple addresses.

It is tiresome to drive in the never-ending construction in Illinois. Combine that with seeing a semi driving too fast and now realizing 20% of the drivers can’t even read the streets signs or warnings. They would never know that the sign they just drove under says traffic is heavy and they need to be prepared to stop. Illinois has no right to jeopardize residents for anyone knowingly breaking the law. All of these illegal CDL holders are now subject to immediate deportation, thanks to the ignorance of the state who purports to protect them. Thanks JB for helping the… Read more »
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

“All drivers are badly needed”
Including drivers that don’t speak English and are dangerous to other drivers? It doesn’t seem worth the additional risk.
