Lakeside Foods is in Winnetka (not Chicago as stated in the linked article). And it’s UFCW Local 1546 (no Local 1456 as stated in the following article). http://www.nrtw.org/news/illinois-workers-appeal-decision-blocking-vote04142017 Unions power, revenue, & jobs is derived not only from union members and dues, but in the private sector also from the various funds they control, such as pension, health & welfare, training / apprenticeship, fair contracting, labor management cooperation committee, etc. The first two funds are the most common, and funds vary depending on union / employer. My Local 881 UFCW rep drove a Corvette. I couldn’t get promoted because when I left for school and came back for breaks, I’d go back to the bottom in seniority.

Good for them! I don’t care how far it is, I’ll drive there from the city if they accomplish this. I vote with my wallet, and I support non union shops.
