Rauner on union bill override: ‘Let me do my job’ – Sun-Times

Rauner on Tuesday sent a memo to lawmakers, asking them to not overturn his veto of the union arbitration bill which would allow an arbitrator to decide labor talks between the state and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), its largest employee union.

The bill mentioned in the article is Senate Bill 1229 (SB 1229) in the 99th General Assembly. Illinois Policy Institute’s Illinois Rising radio show discussed the bill in their August 9, 2015 episode, and Rauner mentions the bill by number at the 13:00 minute mark in the show. Looking at the Illinois Sausuage Factory website, http://www.ilga.gov, SB 1229 was introduced as creating the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Act on February 11, 2015 by Senator David Koehler. “We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
