Chicago’s 28,000 retired city workers and their dependents are asking a federal judge to block Emanuel’s plan to save $27 million in 2015 by raising monthly health insurance premiums by anywhere from 30 percent to 79 percent.

Comment: It’s odd that the pensioners brought this case in a Federal court. Their primary argument is based on the recent Kanerva decision by the Illinois Supreme Court applying Illinois law. Up until now, pensioners have been careful to stay away from Federal courts, which are real ones unlike Illinois state courts where judges are state pensioners and rule by fiat and politics, not law.
