Our taxes could? be lower if Rockford would build anything that is TAXABLE! Examples $500 Million for a new hospital at least 200Mil for the other hospitals. 250Mil for new schools Park district additions police and fire stations- HUD housing 10’s of million and on and on. All of these will never pay any property taxes. The kicker is if you build a new home in Rockford or buy an existing foreclosed home you will be reimbursed 80% of your taxes for THREE years. My home 2 blocks away valued at $153K pays $7,000 while the new homes at $200K… Read more »

Number of half-empty Chicago public schools doubles, yet lawmakers want to extend school closing moratorium – Wirepoints

A set of state lawmakers want to extend CPS’ current school closing moratorium to February 1, 2027 – the same year CPS is set to transition to a fully-elected school board. That means schools like Manley High School, with capacity for more than 1,000 students but enrollment of just 78, can’t be closed for anther three years.
