The United States Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Harris v. Quinn in January, a case concerning home healthcare workers in Illinois. The case has potentially big implications for the public sector union movement.

Workers were deemed government employees just because some of their pay comes indirectly from the government. “The issue…is whether the state can “compel household workers who are neither hired nor supervised by the state to associate with, and subsidize the speech of, a labor union.”
