On Thursday night, all four leading major Republicans candidates for governor — Rick Heidner, Darren Bailey, James Mendrick and Ted Dabrowski  — in the Tazewell County Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Forum. The video is a bit blurry, but the whole program is linked here.

Why did everyone overlook filming this with professional equipment? This looks and sounds terrible. I’ll get a crew out and set up a website for the next one.

None of these men seem to have any experience managing a real crisis, and taking over JB and the Dems’ means taking over (by my count) at least six active emergencies. Mendrick? Bailey? Come on. Even Ted (who would have my vote!) seems to lack any real battle scars.

Mendrick surprised me. At least they all got along, and good on Bailey who agreed to support whoever won. Whoever does win needs to go heavily on the offensive and not be spend their time defending one ioda of conservative policy. People all over Illinois, including those in Cook County, are living the Pritzker experience today. That needs to be driven home to a personal experience voters can relate to, and in a much less cordial way than how these candidates expressed themselves in this debate.

I just don’t understand where these candidates think Republican voters are going to come from. Trump brought out every low propensity voter in the state in 2024 and Republicans still lost by 11 points. And that was better than Romney’s 17 point loss in 2012. There are hardly any ‘country club’ left Republicans in Illinois. Suburban women are mostly liberal. Flip Chicago Red gets a lot of attention but the inner-city politics don’t lend themselves well to conservative values. And Illinois has the unfortunate situation where our hispanic population is hardcore socialist/communist and not anti-communist like in Texas or Florida.… Read more »

“If there is hope, it lies in the comments”, haha! This comment alone is worth more than the whole front page of articles on this web site. Just like you said, and I double it, we aren’t voting ourselves out of this mess. At best, donations to one issue groups help to somewhat slow down the destruction of the republic, e.g. their lobbying and lawfare efforts. Other than that we are cooked, pun intended.

I’m sorry but as much as I like these candidates, I don’t see a general election winner here among them.

This election will show which republican wants to beat Putzger. They should examine who is the best and the others support him. Don’t think the vote

Go Ted

I wish Bailey would rally his followers and then towards the end back out of the race and endorse Ted. Bailey can’t win but he can raise up a lot of voters. The question is does he really want a chance of getting Pritzker out of office or does he instead just want to lead another failed campaign?

Wow, they are all so awful, except for Ted who was really professional and polished. Heidner and Bailey are especially embarrassing.

Bailey- took Pritzker money. Nope. Heidner- shows classic signs of a wolf in lamb’s clothing and reminds me of the newly “ law and order “ Newsom and Pritzker. Not to be trusted. Sheriff What’s his name- good FL sheriff Grady imitation, but not whom I want as a governor. AG would be a nice fit though. Go Ted!

I received in the mail today a flyer for Heidner. It promoted that he was poor and with $10,000 turned himself in a multimillionaire. In the gaming industry, a vice industry that sucks poor and uneducated people out of what little money they have. Well good for him, I suppose, but I don’t really care about Heidner personally at all or care that he’s a millionaire who wants to make the primary about himself and his accomplishments. He thinks $10,000 is just a little bit of money but probably half his Republican voters have less than a $10,000 net worth.… Read more »
