Legislators split on whether DOGE should come to Illinois with $3 billion deficit – Center Square

Asked if Illinois, with an anticipated $3 billion budget deficit for the next fiscal year, should have a similar effort, state Rep. Marcus Evans said not so fast. “This budget deficit is the reality of government operations and we’re going to figure it out, but that Elon Musk department is unnecessary here in Illinois,” Evans said.

Let’s put it to a referendum. Ask the Illinois voters if they prefer a graduated income tax system or the creation of a DOGE.

What really concerns Democrats is not budget deficits, but their fraud and corruption being fully exposed. USAID is but the tip of the iceberg of Democrat malfeasance in D.C. DOGE’s auditing efforts will result in firings and prosecutions. I fully expect IL state finances would have the same level of fraud and corruption.

That would be like a teenager with a wet dream for the public . Democrats would lose control in so many ways. Governor Jelly Belly would need the EPA clean up squad.

Fiscal health varies widely at the local level, but like the federal government, over a dozen states and far more large cities are already in fiscal trouble. In addition to the unbudgeted higher interest rates, the impounding of federal grants and the loss of sanctuary city (jurisdictions) funding will wreak havoc on state and local governments, particularly the fiscally weak. Collectively, federal funding was 34% of total state spending in 2024. While all states rely on federal funding in a meaningful way, federal funding exceeded general state funding in 24 states.   Before the impounding of federal grants, states and jurisdictions were already burdened with declining… Read more »

The answer is yes. We need DOGE here – period. This marionette Evens who claims that, “yes, Illinois has a $3B (with a B) deficit, but we’ll figure it out” – is…well, stupid. They cannot figure it out, because each year it gets worse and worse. People like this are the problem.

In addition to the just passed Social Security Fairness Act and Disaster & Emergency Spending, reckless proposals – including trump’s tax cuts for billionaires & corporations – are likely to FUEL INCREASED DEBT & DEFICITS beyond the CBO estimates.   Specific proposals likely to add to the nation’s debt include extending the TCJA, reduced taxes on overtime pay, SALT relief, reduced taxes on Social Security benefits and more. While some have forecasted a higher impact, the 2/5/25 CFRB release indicated the INCREASED DEBT FROM TRUMP’S POLICIES COULD RANGE FROM $5 – $11 TRILLION.  The projected rise in debt does not include higher interest rates,… Read more »

Dude, Trump’s tax cuts were a net positive to the government in his first term, contrary to CBO predictions.
And are you really against disaster relief for people who had their lives wiped out in NC and CA?
FYI, holding down your caps kept doesn’t make you well informed on financial matters.
Enjoy the chaos, or what the rest of us call the common sense American Restoration.

You are sadly misinformed. Do your homework. Even the caps didn’t help you. Non-wealthy Americans, including the maga cult, are being sacrificed so Trump can maintain reduced taxes on billionaires and corporations. Wake up. Your comment about FEMA is really stupid. Trump is the one that wants to dismantle FEMA, a disaster for America.
