A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign
“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
For years we were told an increased income tax would be off set by decreased property taxes. Pritzker kind of put an end to that foolish notion didn’t he.
Why stop there? I say go nuclear — cease all the titles from the banks so that all principal and interest payments go to the state… That’s where we are headed — renting homes directly from government…
That’s pretty much what we have already in many communities, like the south suburbs where average rates exceed 5% per year. Ownership interest there is junior to a perpetuity at that rate secured by a lien. Equity was seized, leaving owners with just a residual right for the remote possibility that values someday sore beyond the value of that perpetuity.
Mark- Why doesn’t some argue the “Protection of Property” clause in Article1 Section1 of the Illinois Constitution as also being protection from taxing bodies for unlawful seizures of most peoples primary asset due to excessive taxation.? There are never any payment plans to pay property tax’s. Maybe next they will put our pictures in the local Post Office. IRS-credit cards-auto loans-even student loans will work… Read more »
Freddy, the short answer is that courts have a long history of declining to invalidated high taxes based on that. It’s the same issue as the “takings” clause in the US Constitution. Over many decades, many taxpayers have sued to invalidate many different taxes as an uncompensated seizure. The federal income tax, too, was challenged long ago on that theory. Rightly or wrongly, courts just won’t go there on taxation issues.
The Judges are supported by the taxes meaning ti me, there is no way they can be considered impartial.
Mark- Thanks. Are you familiar with the Bell,Ca corruption case? Google How the road to Bell was paved not with good intentions /or anything about Bell. This is similar to what is going thru out Illinois but with more people involved to a lesser flagrant degree. I think that when people (taxpayers) band together change occurs but now we are being picked off one by one.Its if you don’t like move mentality. Illinois is a beautiful state with many natural resources but the political climate is rock bottom and only represents a very small % of residents which goes against… Read more »
