An influx of legal immigrants from a century ago. Think Poles, Germans, Irish. Jewish, Italians, etc.

What saved Chicago was the yuppie culture of the 80’s that lead to an influx of young, urban childless professionals who moved into the city, and gentrified transitioning neighborhoods. Lincoln Park was known, at first, its poor whites followed by Puerto Ricans, and then in the 80’s it quickly gentrified into yuppies which lead to the transformation of all of Chicago. People from all over moved to Chicago to live, work and play in dense, somewhat safe, urban neighborhoods, and some even decided to raise children in the city.
