Mike Quigley says he’s ‘willing to risk the job to save the city’ if elected mayor – Chicago Sun-Times

“What the mayor has to do… is to say to our union partners, `We’re not gonna take away your pension, but it will fail,’” Quigley said. “You call the unions in and tell them,`I want you to come to this meeting and I want the word `yes’ in your vocabulary… If we don’t make some honest trade-offs” — including “how much people pay in, when they start collecting” — then a “slight blip in the economy” could jeopardize their retirement checks altogether.

What’s this? A candidate for mayor telling the truth about the pension problem? And even willing to state upfront that he will address the issue? Probably just lost any union support but it is nice to see a Democrat not ignoring the problem and speaking the truth for a change.

Why would union members support any candidate that promises to start their term by threatening their members? Promising to screw a large group of organized people won’t get you elected. Instead we will organize and support the candidate that recognizes Chicago’s debt is not the responsibility of union workers. We are union strong👊 and we will not be bullied. Mike can go pound sand.

We’ll see how union strong you are next time the market takes a five or six point drop and you see what fiscal reality is.

Yes we will. If you live in Chicago or even elsewhere in Illinois, expect to pay more in taxes. You can come on this board and complain while we keep getting paid. That seems to be the go to move for the union hating scum. Union Strong👊 baby!!!

So you believe the currently working public employees will agree to pay more taxes, and probably be forced to accept contracts with less generous raises, so their retired brethren don’t have to sacrifice a single dime of their tax-free pension benefits?

I think we will see just how much your current union brethren want to give up to keep the retirees happy.

You just better hope there’s enough residents left capable of paying all these necessary high taxes. Doubt all those new illegals will be capable of paying. The rest of us are leaving or are gone.

The left always eats its own, Mr Strong.

Pretty soon that banquet of money public retirees are gorging themselves on is going to look mighty tasty to the community organizers, the violence interrupters, and the myriad other “non-profits” angling for grants of public money. They will come for a piece of that pie. All for the public good of course. They have proven pretty adept at getting what they want.

The left always eats its own.

Why would he care if he succeeds or fails, Quigley will have multiple taxpayer funded pensions.

Extremely good point.

Nice thought but it’s hopeless…
Offer the concede or bankruptcy option and let a judge make the cuts.
If not pensions people.

Wirepoints’ Mark Glennon on AM560: Why We Need to “Relentlessly” Make the Blue State-Red State Case

Glennon raised the stakes of the moment in broader civilizational terms: “This election in Illinois is not about the usual pedestrian issues… it’s about nothing less than whether Western civilization survives in our democratic republic of America because [the left], just on the open border alone, will destroy the country, and now they’re bringing in the jihadists, frankly, into the party.” Audio and summary linked here.Audio and summary linked here.
