Corey Brooks: Chicago found millions for migrants. Why are its own children being left behind? – Chicago Sun-Times

"Chicago’s inspector general found that roughly $639.6 million in city and grant funds was spent on services for new arrivals between August 2022 and the end of 2024. Why weren’t more unrestricted city resources directed toward our struggling schools instead?"

At almost 40k per student I don’t think throwing more money at the school is the solution. Serious deep cuts need to start happening and looking at where the problem starts, the mismanagement of the Cps and Ctu. Mr Brooks is the voice of sanity but I don’t agree with throwing more money away. As far as the state giving to illegals instead of residents, somebody needs to be in prison

The Dulles Elementary School has 74% attendance; the score for Engaged Families is 35 (which is below average); the teacher to student ratio is 19 to 1, all per Great Schools.org. Before we conclude that more money is the answer, might we try to increase parental involvement and student attendance? How about closing underutilized and underperforming schools? How about trying to reform the curriculum with an emphasis on basic skills?
