Wirepoints’ Mark Glennon on AM560: Why We Need to “Relentlessly” Make the Blue State-Red State Case
Glennon raised the stakes of the moment in broader civilizational terms: “This election in Illinois is not about the usual pedestrian issues… it’s about nothing less than whether Western civilization survives in our democratic republic of America because [the left], just on the open border alone, will destroy the country, and now they’re bringing in the jihadists, frankly, into the party.” Audio and summary linked here.Audio and summary linked here.
"Unless paid for by Washington, it is clear that urban socialists will not be able to afford the promises made to their core constituencies – poor recent immigrants and the mass of underpaid, overeducated professionals. Chicago, which has followed the Leftist line for years, is already courting bankruptcy and losing much of its business base."
New Trier High School made national headlines nine years ago as a “canary in a coal mine” for political indoctrination in public schools. The canaries lived.
Among the consequences of economic growth that badly lags national averages are billions of lost revenue every year. Yet denial reigns in Illinois, fueling the vicious cycle of demand for higher taxes.
Blue cities are counting on wealth transfers from DC to bail them out. And if Democrats control Washington again, blue will get bailed out. A few billion here or there is nothing for the Feds. Chicago’s pension crisis is only $36.4 billion which is peanuts compared to the 1.2 trillion Trump promised to spend with the $5,000 mid-term checks.
That money is going to help a lot of people. Thank you, Mr. President!
If da Congress asks me to bail out the golden pensions in Chicago/Illinois then I vote for asking all public sector union workers to be required to help bail out Social Security.
Fair is Fair!!
Chicago has been running on federal money for the last 10 years minimum. That’s why the soon to be former mayor and the inept governor have been so upset. What’s going to happen now?
There’s a good Prager U video featuring Victor Davis Hanson called Chicago Madness: Explaining the Decay of American Cities.
I find the whole thing–the Marxism, the pro-crime culture, the abuse of taxpayers–alarming and tragic. Yet few people in Chicago seem to care.
CWBChicago, Chicago Flips Red, wirepoints, Prager U have scored some victories. But it is hard for me to imagine that the most corrupt city in the nation will ever change for the better.
It’s not just Chicago, but the entire US that’s collapsing. Led by a lunatic, fecally incontinent, 80-year-old.
Oh Goodie! I can’t wait. I already have the popcorn popping.
Amazed that Yahoo News would even print the truth.
Well written and thought out article which will promptly fall on the deaf ears of the vast majority of Chicagoans. But hey, the Bears won and thats really all they care about or can understand.
I saw a statistic online that by 2045, 90% of Illinoisians will have relocated to California. Not that I blame them. I forget the source though.
Going from a bad state to a worse state sounds about right, that’s the IQ of a typical Democrat
California’s really nice. I’ve been there a few times. Wouldn’t mind living there myself someday. But I like being near my family in Illinois.
