Costs of state employee health benefits continue steep rise – Capitol News IL

Director Raven DeVaughn said the 9 percent increases have been due to several factors, including growth in the state’s workforce. Since 2019, she said, the state has added about 10,000 employees. She said the health plan now covers about 470,000 lives, including employees, retirees and qualifying dependents.

Look no further than the state mandated benefit improvements to know why it costs so much more for government employees and insured people. Every legislator with a health need or a business interest in health care simply passes a law requiring what they want to be covered is covered. For fun, compare your health care coverage to state employee coverage. Your coverage is more expensive and not as generous.
