Deeper into the hole he dug goes Attorney General Kwame Raoul on the Jenny Thornley matter – Wirepoints

By: Mark Glennon*

Here’s the latest on the evasion and deceit in the Jenny Thornley saga.

We’ve covered background facts earlier. Suffice it to say that Jenny Thornley was a politically connected state employee who made a workers’ compensation claim for harm supposedly suffered in a sexual harassment — a harassment that never occurred according to an investigation concluded at the cost of $550,000 to Illinois taxpayers.

Valid questions include why the apparently fraudulent claim was nevertheless approved, whether any effort is being made to hold anybody accountable, what role Gov. JB Pritzker’s office had in approving it and why it would have done so.

The Center Square has now obtained an email clearly indicating that, despite claims by the Illinois Attorney General’s office that it referred the case out for the Illinois Office of the Appellate Prosecutor to handle, no such appointment has been made. The email, reproduced in full below, was sent by David Robinson, chief deputy director of the State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor on Friday morning.

But that contradicts what Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office told Greg Bishop at The Center Square on Wednesday. “The Attorney General’s office moved the [overtime] case forward by referring allegations of theft and forgery to the State Appellate Prosecutor’s office, and criminal charges are pending against Ms. Thornley as a result,” Raoul press secretary Annie Thompson said. “Just as we referred the theft and forgery allegations, we have referred allegations that Ms. Thornley committed worker’s compensation fraud to the appellate prosecutor’s office,” Raoul’s office said on Wednesday. “Our understanding is the matter is under review by that office.” In truth, public records show the Illinois Office of the Appellate Prosecutor was requested by Sangamon County State’s Attorney Dan Wright, nor Raoul’s office, and ordered by a judge in April 2021. And the referral on the workers’ comp claim was never made at all, Robinson’s email says.

It also contradicts claims made by Raoul himself later on Friday when, in response to a question from NBC Chicago’s Mary Ann Ahern, he attempted to explain his reasons for referring the matter out.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul and Gov. JB Pritzker react on Friday to question about supposed referral of Thornley case. Source: Center Square.

Watch the short video clip of what Raoul said. After he and Pritzker laughed the matter off, Raoul went on to make other deceitful claims about it, beyond the false claim that the matter was referred out.

He claimed he passed off the case to a different office because his office had a conflict of interest. Raoul said there is a “typical” and “common” conflict because Thornley made sexual assault allegations against her supervisor. “And so, we’re engaged … adverse to the person making the allegations,” Raoul said. “After an investigation, it’s revealed that there’s potential for fraud from that employee. It will look like retaliation if you’re prosecuting the person that you’re adverse, so it’s a typical conflict, which is common.”

Wait, what? That’s no conflict of interest, it’s alignment. The state is adverse to Thornley on both the workers’ comp fraud matter and on the sexual harassment matter. Since when does it “look like retaliation” for the state to prosecute an attempted fraud against it just because the fraudster is suing the state on something else?

Raoul said the issue is being made out of nothing by a political opponent who “knows nothing about the office, who knows nothing about how the office works….”

But look at that email where Robinson asked why Raoul claimed that his office has no jurisdiction over a workers’ comp fraud claim. Raoul’s office in fact has an entire worker’s comp fraud division, as the email says. Robinson further notes that his (Robinson’s) office has no experience or history with workers’ comp fraud claims. It’s Raoul who seems intent on making himself appear to know nothing about the office.

Raoul also tried to smoke over the matter with a distraction, as you can see in the video, by saying “it’s been alleged” that CMS (Central Management Services) handled the worker’s comp claim when it shouldn’t have.

No, no, no. Never mind CMS. What’s been alleged, as Raoul knows full well, is that Pritzker’s office helped put through the fraudulent claim when they shouldn’t have, and there’s darn good evidence supporting that allegation.

That’s the matter Raoul is trying to hide from. Smirking at valid questions, as you can see him and Pritzker do in the video, won’t fly.

Salute to Greg Bishop at The Center Square for his work on this.

This column was update to add the full quote from Ms. Thompson in Raoul’s office and the comment respecting the earlier overtime fraud referral by the Sangamon County state’s attorney.

The photo says it all. Two bubble headed idiots laughing at the scam they are involved in. JB is thinking that this scam is almost as good as pulling toilets out of a mansion and Raoul is just laughing because he’s an idiot. He, JB, will get 90% of the vote in Cook County.

Some good question for Pritzker or Raoul would be:
Did Jennifer Thornley work for the Governor’s office?
Did Ann Spillane supervise Jennifer Thornley?
What direct actions did Ann Spillane take regarding Jennifer Thornley?
Did Ann Spillane notify Pritzker after Thornley contacted her?
How many worker’s comp cases has the Governor’s office referred under Pritzker?
Does the AG’s office have a worker’s comp fraud division?
What is the exact “conflict of interest” for the AG’s office?
Did you read the independent attorney’s $500,000 report?

The AG of IL is the *highest* LE official in the state…

With the exception of federal cases, that office has jurisdiction over everything…

JBP, KR & LL can open a law practice…

This would make for a good in-depth article by the Wall Street Journal on how the Governor’s office, States Attorney, and major Illinois media conspired to sweep obvious fraud under the rug. The national media needs to run further with this story.

Right. Chicago and Illinois media vermin wll never mention a breath of this case within Illinois but….the mainstream media nationally are mostly as completely ‘Woke” and Pravda shills for the Democrats as Chicago media. Sadly this will see no national attention unless Fox picks it up if Fatboy becomes a legitimate presidential candidats. Worse, although WSJ is the least corrupted of the national media, right now only the editorial pages are truly even-handed. The non-editorial side of the WSJ house is plenty “woke” to Pravda-up any stains on the Democrats.

Legacy national media? Who cares what they have to say.

They are irrelevant to the ever growing conservative media world. I popped over into the Blue Check national media world recently only to see some short clip out of context clip of Josh Hawley running through the capital complex on 1/6, and the entire blue check national media was having a field day making fun of him. I would have had no idea this video clip even existed listening to conservative media.

Here’s the problem. Yes, the Democrats are full of shit, crooked and Morley and ethically bankrupt. But defending a piece of garbage like Hawley b Eva use he’s on the other team shows the bigger problem. Both sides campaign on the “at least we’re not as shittty” platform. No core beliefs, no character, no honesty, and fools like us buy it. Without serious reforms, audits and harsh ethics laws with severe punishment, only grifters and political whores will continue to run for public office. They sell their souls to get there and grab what they can to justify it. I… Read more »

Resign? …..I believe he will think “I’ve got this thing and its golden” and decide not to resign—and collect his 7 figure pension and medical benefits….think he knows non-public union taxpayer jamokes like us cannot touch him….only group I believe he is concerned about is public unions, cause they play political “hard ball” (to get what they want)….unlike the non-public union “jamoke” taxpayers, who play “powder-puff”, midwest-nice politics (ie we rely on their oaths of office, and their ability to assess if they can do the job)

Mr. “Just getting started” is showing who he works for and it is not the people of Illinois (unless you are in on the game). His office should have been involved from the beginning. It has been how many years and no resolution.

Yes, non-public union taxpayers in IL are “subjects” to be ruled by the political class.

These people are disgusting. Yet, what’s even more disappointing is the base that supports them, KNOWING they are morally bereft and more than willing to prostitute themselves for anything, regardless how awful it may be…

Unfortunately, I fear you’re correct. But I’m hoping this might be Pritzker’s Achilles’ heel. I’m imagining that first debate between him and Bailey and the moderator, one with cajones, asks Pritzker to explain his office’s role in this quagmire. This situation is a microcosm of all that is wrong with Illinois politics. I hope Bailey’s messaging, if done right, resonates with the electorate.

“I hope Bailey’s messaging, if done right, resonates with the electorate.” JB Pritzker doesn’t need to convince even single potential Bailey voter to change his vote. Because he knows he can’t. This race is between MAGA and Progressive. There’s no middle ground. So he’s relying on turnout from mail-in ballots, ballot harvesting, drop box fraud, and straight up fake votes added to the totals coming from the bowels of the Cook County building. Absent JB’s outright fraud, the best Bailey can hope for is an energized republican base Red wave to stem offset the apathy of Democrat voters. It may… Read more »

I used to watch ABC 7 despite its slow decline into wokeness, but a few months back, they had a piece narrated by Rob Elgas saying “Look at all the happy smiling children getting their first covid shot since it was given emergency approval a few days ago”. I changed the channel and never went back. Ironically enough, I went to Channel 2, and Jermont Terry was doing a story about all the PPP fraud by employees of Markham, including a full time cop who claimed he owned a landscaping business to get that PPP money. I turned to my… Read more »

You found a new station in Channel 2 (CBS). I’ve boycotted network television for years for two significant reasons: mind-numbingly stupid content and faux news reporting. No matter the call letters – CBS, NBC, ABC – their content is inane and their news is tabloid sensationalism. It doesn’t take much thought to imagine the real news you’re not getting. They can no longer be trusted; after all, they are part of the mainstream media. I’d rather watch grass grow.

We non-public union Illinois jamokes, owe a huge debt of gratitude to Mark Glennon, the entire Wirepoints team, and others fighting Illinois political corruption and malfeasance.

Things are changing. Non public union taxpayers are becoming less “Midwest nice” regarding its political class, and more informed of Ill political malfeasance.

That poliical class wants to continue on…as has been the case for many decades. Too bad their predecessors bankrupted the state (and Chicago)…so there is less to steal without inflaming the “jamokes”.

Because of a compliant press. You can point to a lot of things that make for evil politics, but none are more potent as the absence of an honest and objective fourth estate.
