"The charges speak to the immense power that aldermen enjoy in their wards...through what is known as aldermanic privilege. It’s an entrenched tradition in Chicago governance that isn’t cast in stone through city ordinance, but rather exists as an unwritten code of political behavior. It has endured for decades, and is jealously guarded by many aldermen who want to preserve control over their fiefdoms."
The media has been terrified of the mayor for the last 70 years. J hated the press, Richie hated the press too, but nobody cared. The media cheered on the Daley Machine enroute to being pantsed by the Olympics. That was hilarious.
The media are at the core of the problem. They all think they’re reality stars. Ch7 takes the cake; they’re sooo soo woke! Rahm got a pass except when his caravan was blowing through lights! BFD! They love Lori because she’s so courageous. What a joke. I watch the news for about 30 minutes a month. It’s awful.

Most Chicagoans are proud of that fact, liking to think of themselves as badasses from a badass town, and they are correct, esp. if you replace “badass” with dumbass. Al Capone was the good old days, when crime and politics were organized. The Tribune and other media have long been parts of the problem.

Agreed. Chicagoans should accept as gospel that they live in one of the most corrupt cities in the WORLD.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

Don’t forget the state of Illinois as a whole also
The Tribune? For years the Trib has cheered on Chicago politicians! Why? Now Chicago is corrupt?
