This is so ignorant of history. To start with this “church”, and others don’t seem to understand that Jesus, Mary & Joseph were Roman subjects. They were NOT immigrants of any kind.

Every article like this makes me want to renounce my birthplace and hometown. Not the city I grew up in. The residents forget that the city was founded by a very conservative Episcopal Church, and that includes the formerly stellar Northwestern University. I’m surprised that Gordon Theological Seminary still exists in that town.
Weren’t Joseph &Mary in Bethlehem because of a census to count citizens.
I worked for the city of Evanston for nearly 38 years. I couldn’t be more happy to be out of there – it was like being trapped in a Disney park run by liberals.
Interesting. Didn’t this event take place at a time of the census when people were required to return to the place of their birth? No, you are wrong. The refugee experience doesn’t relate to the census, it’s about Jesus fleeing to Egypt to escape King Herod’s plan to kill him. (Matthew 2:13-15). Progressives today very loosely equate Jesus fleeing the state’s persecution in Judea, a client state of the Romans, to refugee status. However, he fled to Egypt, which at the time was also of the Roman Empire, so it’s more like he moved from Illinois to Florida to escape oppressive taxes.
