It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”

I think Pritzker is as likely as any other Dem to be the Dem nominee, assuming Biden is out before November election. Dems will do all they can to keep Biden propped up until the convention, to avoid the chaos and uncertainty of an open convention, and filing deadlines for primaries are already passing. But then they push Biden out after the convention, leaving the Dem National Committee free to pick his replacement on their own. While JB likes to paint himself as a woke progressive, his offshore untaxed billions and silver spoon life are going to disenfranchise some Dems. They won’t vote Republican but they may not vote for JB either. Nothing would surprise me though.
The machine behind JB’s record setting 2.5 million votes and Biden’s record 81M votes is still strong, a little weakened in some places, but strong enough to pull through a Democrat president to the finish line, no matter the candidate. You can’t ascribe all Dem power to the machine, or the regency as you also called it. A huge part of Dem vote is driven by two issues — abortion and Trump. That mass of suburban Dem voters simply won’t have anything to do with anybody pro-life or pro-Trump.
As nancy pelosi famously said someone else told her, “votes are the keys to the kingdom”. We all understood her to mean ballots but she’s not wrong. Democrats get the votes – through their base of reliable voters, and their ballot harvesting the mail in ballots of unreliable voters. Ballot harvesting is a fairly new phenomena to replace the old school stuffing the ballot box fraud that used to occur. I’ll preface my comment that it’s anyone’s guess at this point, and any opinion is as valid as another. But after what we saw in 2020, but I don’t think the regency behind Biden – because that’s what his cabinet and staff is at this point, a regency – is going to ever voluntarily give up power. That’s certainly a well-stated case against what I said. One issue is who is the “regency” to which you refer, and I agree there is one. In name, the DNC has the power to push Biden out easily whenever they want. And if they did it between the convention and election they can choose the replacement. But the deep state has no small role, and they may well have dominance over the DNC. Can the DNC really push Biden out without their consent if Biden’s regency refuses to step aside? Who or whom in DNC has the power to execute the bloodless coup, really, to nominate someone else? How exactly does a challenger come along and convince the DNC to toss out a sitting president and give the presidency to this new guy?
