Illinois’ doomed plan to tax social media – FIRE

The First Amendment strictly prohibits taxes that single out content the state doesn’t like. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Illinois’ new state spending plan does, and it’s poised to soon be signed by Governor Pritzker.

Of course it’s doomed. Not to worry though. By the time it’s struck down, Illinois will have figured out a constitutional tax that can replace this one.

No need for them to strain themselves to think up a new tax; they can simply increase some existing taxes and fees.
