Trump’s hypocrisy and projection are sublime. in 2012 Trump warned republicans not to “let Obama play the Iran card to start a war in order too get elected”. Personally, I do think it is wrong of ahimsa to say Trump is guilty of hypocrisy or projection on this (though he often is on other things). I think the attack on Iran is a matter of being opportunistic in light of Israel’s astonishing win in June last year, which changed the circumstances drastically from when Trump said that. The conventional wisdom had been that attacking Iran would be futile, primarily because of Iran’s air defenses. But Israel stunned everybody by knocking that out in 48 hours in June. I once worked with a very smart man who frequently complained about the end of the Iran-Iraq war. He said the Iran-Iraq war was the best thing for Israel because these two Muslim sects fought each other and drained their resources for years and left Israel alone. Maybe unrest in Iran would be a good thing from Israel’s perspective, if they spent all their resources fighting a domestic civil war, or if their neighbors fought a proxy war for control of Iran instead. Most Democrats, especially the Jewish ones, like Pritzker, Schneider, and Schakowsky, have to publicly oppose Trump, yet privately are grateful for what he did. There is no negotiating with the Iranian mullahs-they want a nuclear bomb and they would use it against Israel even in the face of their own destruction.
