"The problem isn’t one of mismanagement. It’s chronic underfunding. Illinois ranks last among peer states in state support for public transit, covering just 17 percent of costs while most states fund 40 percent to 50 percent. Since 2014, Springfield has cut more than $400 million in transit resources even as the state budget has ballooned by $20 billion."
Dillard is gaslighting to get another taxpayer bailout. It’s like he thinks it’s 1970 — and we don’t have the internet to fact-check the lies about CTA budget blunders.

Why is he looking at what percent of costs are being funded. First compare costs of “peer” states. Might also want to define what is a peer state.

So, Kirk Dillard, head of the RTA, sez the problem is NOT Mismanagement, but State Funding?!
Of course!! What would anyone expect him to say?
Mamdani is talking about free bus rides and you think schedules should shrink? He’s the new leader of the Democratic Party and other progressives must follow. No way will they willingly allow cuts. Instead the “rich” need to pay more.
Kirk only cares about one thing: his multiple pensions.
Gotta maintain his Hinsdale mansion and lifestyle, you know.
Also looks like he’s been on the Pritzker diet.
Kirk Dillard reads Wirepoints from his mansion in Hinsdale!
Thank you for the downvote Kirk!

Beyond taking money from tax payer (your so called “Funding”), the biggest problem is selling a crappy product that not enough people use so it can pay for itself. If you need government subsidies to cover the cost of a service…there is a problem. Trouble is, you believe the problem is us tax payers not paying enough…screw off. Get the people who actually use RTA/CTA to pay for RTA/CTA. You say there isn’t any miss-management…are you kidding? Whatever, the corrupt springfield legislature has likely already done a smoke-filled bourbon drinking deal…they just aren’t going to tell us till the last… Read more »

A real, and desired consequence, might be a few less Dillards thinking money grows on trees. Wonder what Dorval Carter is up to these days?
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

Kirk, come on. With ridership down at least 35% you gotta shrink the schedules accordingly.

Stacy will be big mad when she figures out somebody else is getting some of her money.
