Among the consequences of economic growth that badly lags national averages are billions of lost revenue every year. Yet denial reigns in Illinois, fueling the vicious cycle of demand for higher taxes.

Kind of related to this, does Florian Sohnke still have his megaphone and the stack of flyers he hands out downtown? I stopped going to the office years ago, but he and the FBI sign guy were by far my two favorite “characters” in the Loop.
School choice is possibly a Sisyphusian effort in a state where public union campaign donations are infused into elected officials decisions. Never mind these same electeds went to and/or send their kids to private schools, in part because either their state salary is large enough they can afford it or because as part time state workers they have outside income that enables school choice.
