Wirepoints’ Mark Glennon on AM560: Why We Need to “Relentlessly” Make the Blue State-Red State Case
Glennon raised the stakes of the moment in broader civilizational terms: “This election in Illinois is not about the usual pedestrian issues… it’s about nothing less than whether Western civilization survives in our democratic republic of America because [the left], just on the open border alone, will destroy the country, and now they’re bringing in the jihadists, frankly, into the party.” Audio and summary linked here.Audio and summary linked here.
New Trier High School made national headlines nine years ago as a “canary in a coal mine” for political indoctrination in public schools. The canaries lived.
Among the consequences of economic growth that badly lags national averages are billions of lost revenue every year. Yet denial reigns in Illinois, fueling the vicious cycle of demand for higher taxes.
Lets not forget The Gulf of Mexico name change. That was another beauty
Hard to deny that this childish stunt is Trump at his worst, along with a trade war with Canada.
I agree. However, if this is what it takes to get Canada to come to the negotiating table to create a trade agreement, and also to stop supporting Iran, I will take it.
There is no need to bring Canada to the negotiating table. Trade was just fine between the U.S. and Canada for decades before Trump started his tariff policy.
President Barack Obama officially renamed North America’s tallest peak from Mount McKinley back to Denali in August 2015. Biden changed the name of 7 military bases. Every president does it. You just freak out when it’s Trump. What the White House understands, that many others don’t, is that Canada is not and never again will be an ally of any current or future Republican administration. It is going to be impossible for any conservative or Republican government to get along with Canada probably for the rest of my life, maybe forever, given the vast demographic change in that country. Almost… Read more »
Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico are international bodies of water and not army bases or mountains. That’s the difference.
I fail to see why international bodies of water are any different. Canada has a veto power? No one is stopping them from continuing to call it Lake Ontario.
Thanks for that very important and thoughtful response. It’s a huge issue — Canada’s turn to the left (and toward China, you might have added). It’s like so many things with Trump, IMO. He may be directionally right, but his means are so abrasive that they can backfire, pushing Canada further left and further into China’s camp as a trade partner. Fundamentally, Trump has not made the case on Trump as you did, and he needs to. I am not entirely sure that Canada is as far “gone” as you say, or of it’s mostly temporary due to their own… Read more »
Canada has its own agency. They are a 200 year old country with its own democratically leaders. Trump did not push them to the left. They did that to themselves. There’s an argument that Trump has implicitly, but not explicitly stated, that he sees all of North America coming under US control for national security reasons. PM Carney the complete anti-American moron that he is, has been trying to create “new strategic partnerships” with China, our direct competitor and enemy. Talk about stupid. This is like the Romans invading Judea after Jerusalem sided with the Parthians instead of Rome. Just… Read more »
The only thing I disagree with in that is “it’s too nuanced” for Americans to understand. I think they can be brought up to speed. The obstacle, as always, is the MSNM, but they can be overcome.
I’d like to add the issue of whether “this too shall pass.” Electorates’ enthusiasms ebb and flow. Some are saying that Woke One is over and that its successor is less abrasive and more benign. Time’ll tell, of course, but there is some chance that at some point Canada will bow to economic realities. The problem is: What IS economic reality? As I look at the federal deficit and the pending insolvency of Social Security and Medicare, each side is releasing a current of bombast from its wizards of pretense.
Boy, I sure hope so. I really believe that there’s some kind of psychological phenomenon at work in this radically leftward shift we and the world are facing, giving reason to hope that it’s something that can be snapped out of. Insofar as TDS is the issue, which is debatable, he will be gone in 2 1/2 years, so maybe that will help.
It will not help when Trump is gone. That’s called cope. We saw Canada did after Trump lost and Biden became President: Canada turned up the immigration volume to 11 during COVID-19. Canada let in millions upon millions of immigrants. I saw a stat in my X feed today that says Canada has 13.7 million foreign born permanent residents out of about 41 million people. That is insane, completely insane. No other country on earth has done this. Canada let in 10% of their current population of 41,000,000 people during Biden’s term from 2021 to 2025. Even the TDS affected… Read more »
Don’t know which way anything is going to go, but it’s in our hands, this will be the greatest reset in the history of America.
Trump doesn’t do nuanced. He needs someone knowledgeable and articulate, Bessent or Rubio, maybe Vance, to lay out the underlying rationale and strategic reasons obscured by Trumps pugnacious bombast. The issue isn’t too nuanced for the American people, the delivery style of Trump is void of nuance. He’s frustrating, he clearly understands many issues yet manages to be his own impediment. A bull who brings his own China shop.
unlike Mount McKinley & the 7 military bases, Lake Ontario is bordered by both Canada and the United States
Thanks for the geography lesson, Ratio King.
Your point?
A couple of points. I don’t think the United States will be replacing oil imports from Canada with Venezuelan oil any time soon. The U.S. imports about 4 million bpd (barrels per day) of oil from Canada. That’s about 2/3 of our total daily imports. Venezuela produces 1.2 million bpd currently and it’s estimated that it will take 15 years and $100 billion in investment to get Venezuela oil production up to 3 million bpd. So that won’t be happening any time soon. As to the Canadian conservatives not liking Trump. That’s an easy one. Canadian conservatives are nationalists, like Trump,… Read more »
Your world is very small and sad.
Nice getting reliably true news!
in other news, a NY judge just rejected trumps 2nd appeal to undo his 34 felony convictions and his illegal “one week war” reached 6 months as of yesterday, costing each taxpayer $1,100 to date.
In other news, our beloved Ratio King smacks the only note on his piano.
Again.
remind me again why you care so much about IL politics if you left the state over 20 years ago?
DId I? News to me, Ratio King. Best get back on your meds.
Fat boy, this will be amusing when Springfield is featured in “Repo-Man.
