Wirepoints’ Mark Glennon on AM560: Why We Need to “Relentlessly” Make the Blue State-Red State Case
Glennon raised the stakes of the moment in broader civilizational terms: “This election in Illinois is not about the usual pedestrian issues… it’s about nothing less than whether Western civilization survives in our democratic republic of America because [the left], just on the open border alone, will destroy the country, and now they’re bringing in the jihadists, frankly, into the party.” Audio and summary linked here.Audio and summary linked here.
New Trier High School made national headlines nine years ago as a “canary in a coal mine” for political indoctrination in public schools. The canaries lived.
Among the consequences of economic growth that badly lags national averages are billions of lost revenue every year. Yet denial reigns in Illinois, fueling the vicious cycle of demand for higher taxes.
And how about the fact that a brand new term has come into our 120 year old baseball lingo– “swing speed”! Golfers have been talking about this for decades. Increase your club head speed and the golf ball goes further. But I never heard the phrase “swing speed” related to baseball until last year. Just goes to show you that every once in a while a new idea comes along that really produces results
Launch angle is also a newer metric they also follow in baseball. It determines the flight of the ball as it comes off the bat. The metric helps hitters become better and it’s also used in pitching to determine how a pitcher’s pitch is being hit (ground-ball vs. fly-ball pitcher).
Great article. I Did notice that they were swinging “harder” this year, glad the results are there. Another thing I noticed is How Much More the guys are hitting to the Opposite Field.
Finally, the guys are laying off the bad pitches as the Sox are 6th in the Majors in Walks. Vargas is 4th in the AL in walks & Murakami is 6th (and he was on the DL for almost a month!).
All of those points show some real plate discipline. Go Sox!
Those kids are doing well this year. They are normally quite an entertaining bunch. Plus…they win games!
Why, you ask, are we publishing a sports story? Because maybe there’s a broader lesson in this: If you want to do better, swing harder.
May the magic of Vasil’s wand bring you good fortune!
