University of Illinois poised to make woke ideology and conduct mandatory for faculty – QuickPoint

Give them credit at least for being open about what they intend: no diversity of opinion about race. Wokeness shall be mandatory under pending directives for University of Illinois faculty.

Take a look at the proposed standards on promotions and tenure provided in a Communication and FAQ, the product of three university “task forces.” They’ve been issued by the U of I’s provost and were recently reported by Campus Reform.

The school’s term for it is DEI — Diversity, Equity and Inclusion — the prime buzzwords for wokeness and critical race theory.

“DEI efforts will be considered as a strength in the evaluation process,” says the FAQ. “Eventually, all faculty will be expected to make DEI efforts and these will be part of the evaluation process.”

Faculty will be required to submit a personal statement about how they have paid homage to DEI, as detailed in Communication. Candidate evaluations must include, under the pending communication, “contributions toward enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within their research, teaching, and/or service.” In assessing a candidate’s research, “Consideration must be given to the candidate’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and their impact.” The Communication is full of similar requirements.

What if the candidate’s specialty is, say, high energy particle theory, or Chinese history or genetic markers for cancer risk?

Sorry, “all faculty are expected to make efforts toward enhancing DEI,” says the FAQ. It goes on:

There are many ways to make DEI efforts—for example, integrating work by scholars from groups historically marginalized or underrepresented in academia into your curriculum, including and effectively mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in your research group, and attending workshops to develop your DEI work so that it is more effective.

It’s getting hard to remember when the hallmark of the academy was heterodoxy and when science was about challenging prevailing orthodoxies. Shame on the University of Illinois — and most of the rest of higher education.

The only remedy is to cut off funding. No freedom of opinion and speech? Then no contributions and no government funding.

This should be taken as an opportunity to write mission statements as was the rage 20 years ago. Nothing but nonsense from corporate training, another hiding place for expert mopes. Whoever can saddle you with a humongous binder gets promoted to Senior Something. Another good impenetrable shelter is Safety. Safety is everyone’s responsibility, subsequently you have blanket authority to be a pain in the ass.

I had respect for teachers. Today Education is a haven for shtbags.

K-12 schools are becoming overrun with toxic far-left ideology that is obsessed with identity politics, socialism, tearing down traditional values, and portraying America as a bad country. Critical race theory and “inclusive math” are examples of this, but many of the far-left ideas being taught in schools now don’t fall under the purview of these labels. They are just radical, bad ideas. People who are sending their kids to schools espousing these radical liberal principles can fight back in their current school, try to find a new one that isn’t teaching these values, or home school. The problem is, it’s… Read more »

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) now has separate graduation ceremonies for black, Hispanic, Rainbow, Non-Traditional, and BIPOC students. Rainbow refers to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and ally students while BIPOC is an acronym for Black, Indigenous, People of Color. These graduation ceremonies do not replace the actual graduation. They are held in addition to the actual graduation. Liberals in their obsessive zeal to characterize people into identity groups have developed a long list of awkward, bizarre, and comical identity group names and acronyms that are forever morphing into new even more politically correct names and acronyms. SIUE now… Read more »

Equity? Isn’t that something thats earned not just given? So this means a UI professor must on day one of a class say everyone gets a B. Even if you deserve an A or if this is the last time I see you here in class, all B’s. Equity. At least this isn’t as bad as paid college loans/tuition for all. With that wokeness proposal the kid who wants to start a plumbing business out of HS gets no free truck, tools and storefront, shafted. While the kid who wants to study non-binary gender in dogs gets $200,000. Or the… Read more »

Many colleges have abolished grading altogether; and even more colleges have abandoned ACT/SAT admissions tests because they (wrongly) believe that high scores from certain minorities are also ‘unearned’ and are a product of white supremacy and a test that reflects only one style of ‘learning’.

Of course, to the average person, it just sounds confusing and makes no sense. But when you really try to understand it, I mean really take big chunk of the apple, only then does one realize how completely insane these people are. Their rigid and nonsensical belief system makes Scientology look sane by comparison.

End result of this fascist nonsense is the exact opposite of what ML King wanted and preached about. All minorities should realize this and stop this new insanity. I could go on and on about Obama’s preferential treatment in his academic underachievements, that led to higher and higher positions. Good grief.

“All minorities should realize this and stop this new insanity.”

Let’s be honest, why would they be against this? Punish whites and take away their ‘power’? Call it unearned and then redistribute it to BIPOC? Independent minded minorities (And asians who have the most to lose) are against this insanity, but virtually all other BIPOC see this as collective justice against ‘white’ people, to remedy the wrongs going back, quite frankly, nearly a millennia, when the Spanish first discovered the Canary islands, and unleashed their oppression throughout the world. That’s why most BIPOC are 100% for this.

That’s what they’re tell us; but I’m not sure I believe it. Why are BIPOC not pushing back? After years of left-wing identity politics voting patterns, it’s not clear they intend to push back. In fact, it seems to be BIPOC pushing DIE and CRT as much as their white liberal allies.

A noble idea Mark, but the people who hold the purse strings are the same clowns (excuse me, the same Comrades) who let the ISBE cram this CRP bilge down the throats of all the K-12 schools. I’m sure they are going to rein in the U of I.

DEI…..Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

The acronym is so appropriate for the new deity. We no longer worship God, only DEI. I wonder if anyone on the U of I faculty knows Latin? Or maybe they do and figure none of us deplorables will see their arrogance.

U if I has always been a liberal institution that is more concerned with this garbage than a true education. Just look at the Administration, it is mostly foreigners who could care less about the State of Illinois, let alone America just as long as they get huge raises and benefits they could not care less what it costs taxpayers. How many education went to Chinese Military candidates? How much Research went to China? U of I like many other institutions would be a whole lot better if Student and Teachers Unions were removed.

Any wonder why our top high school grads look out of state? The current administration is destroying this once great school. Agree, not donating a dime to them, and neither are my kids. They are all Illini, in their 30s, and smart enough to know the school is on the wrong path. The school should be driven to provide our kids the tools to compete globally. U of I once did. I don’t think the Chinese care about equity and inclusion. They seem focused on creating a strong economy to lift all their citizens.

The foreign students come here, use our educational system and leave the country. Yet Illinois continues to cater to them even though they do not participate in our economy, by either living or working here after graduation. As a result, alumni are not tied to the university like they used to be because the “loyal” alumni are reduced in number, they have had their kids denied admission, or the cost is just unjustifiable when compared to out of state options. A number of states require a set % of students to be from in-state like Texas and Georgia, which would… Read more »

A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign

“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
