Paul Vallas: Chicago police problems start with poor hiring and training – Chicago Tribune*

"COPA Chief Administrator Andrea Kersten’s stunning display of poor judgment in her recent comments about the Reed shooting remind us again of a fundamental problem that she and most COPA appointees have — a dangerous lack of understanding of what it is to be a police officer. It’s time to professionalize police oversight and bring fairness and speed to the investigations of police officers."

LOL COPA doesn’t exist to review police action, it says right there in the name: Accountability.
COPA exists to punish officers in cases that come their way. That’s the sole purpose of COPA. They don’t need to understand the nuances of being a police officer or giving the benefit of the doubt in split-second decisions. This is about vengefully holding officers accountable for hunting down black men in a white supremacist structurally racist system.

This is all about being monday morning quarterbacks, second guessing the actions of a Police Officer placed in situations where split second decisions need to be made. Reviewing these actions from the safety and calm of a conference room and able to play it back and forth and able to play what-if games…it is ridiculous. Unless the Officer is shot, this group will always side with the criminal, activists and media.

How so Vallas? Give specific examples? What would such trainees have done differently? Life isn’t scripted to fit into your imagination.
