Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. If you see something, say something. Then run for cover.
New tourism poster advertising Chicago: “Chicago, the Hot Spot of America”, and “Chicago, Come Experience Chiraq”.
For the uninitiated college grad looking to move to Chicago to experience the Big10-esque playground that is our great city, one will drastically improve their odds of survival if he or she simply stays away from numbered streets, never ventures west of Western Ave., and doesn’t walk around the streets after 11pm. Yes there are exceptions (here’s lookin’ at you, Uptown, Morse Ave el stop) but for the most part, heeding this advice will keep you relative safe. Not nearly as safe as Northbrook or Glencoe, but magnitudes safer than the south and west sides.
Except River North, West Loop, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Edgewater, Gold Coast and Streeterville are all EAST of Western, and don’t contain numbered streets, and lots of street-crime happens before 11 pm, even between 9 am and 6 pm.
Kudos to CWB-Chicago blog-site, which covers this crime in great detail, day after day. Far more accurate and comprehensive reporting than Trib, Sun-Times, or Crains.
No good happens after midnight.
Welcome to Chicago!
For your safety, please hit the ground when the shooting starts.
Attention passengers….Welcome to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport where the bullets fly as frequently as our aircraft!
Reminiscent of the Caribbean where shootings at the airports are becoming quite common. Imagine the Dems relief if the shooter has both protected status and a FOID card.
Guess he forgot another mag…
