Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

Best to make peace with the fact that if you choose to stay in Chicago, you will arm up and refuse to be one of their victims. Otherwise, you should leave.

Yep, exactly correct. I quit running night-clubs and moved on to restaurants-n-hotels just about the time that that rap-gang-drug-n-thug culture really started to cross over in contemporary music/video among lots of ethnic groups of kids. When you move out of Illinois do not tell anyone where you came from. It is embarrassing to say you are from Illinois.
Especially avoid saying you’re from or nearby Chicago. You get pity looks. Once, I said we were from IL, and I was asked “how many of your governors went to jail?” Used to be Michael Jordan, not any more. People from out of state know more about the wretched state of IL than IL residents do.
That’s interesting … when my sister visited Europe in the mid-60s when Chicago was mentioned, they recounted tommy guns and Capone. Now it’s jailed governors and the wretched situation in Chicago.
