Appellate justices: Reform state hospital permitting process ‘corruption tax’ jacking up Illinois health care costs – Cook County Record

While unanimous in their support of a state permit granted to build a new hospital in McHenry County, two of the three members of an Illinois appellate panel have called on state lawmakers to reform or end the hospital permitting process one of the three justices called “nothing more than an additional corruption tax added to the cost of healthcare in Illinois.” Comment: This system has been abused by crony capitalists with both parties for decades. Illinois Universities Grateful; Say More Needed – ABC News

Leaders of Illinois’ public universities are thankful for the money the stop-gap funding bill passed by the state’s General Assembly will provide. But they emphasize that the $600 million is only a fraction of what they need to operate and would not wipe away the consequences of the 10-month state budget standoff. Comment: Hard to tell whether they “need more” because they perpetually say that. And remember that pension contributions are about half of what we put into higher education.

Munger To Begin Making Payments Immediately to Universities, Community Colleges, Students – WRSP

Illinois State Comptroller Leslie Munger issued the following statement Friday following General Assembly passage of legislation to partially fund state universities and community colleges and avoid further cuts and potential closings. The legislation also includes funding for Monetary Award Program (MAP) grants for college students. Governor Rauner is expected to sign the legislation.
