ISP updates rules to firearms access – WICS (Springfield)
The first reform allows for a broader use of Clear and Present Danger Rule reports, which allows ISP to revoke or deny a Firearm Owners Identification Card to those who are deemed a risk to themselves or to others. The second change puts a model policy in place to provide an overall framework law enforcement can follow to secure and execute a Firearms Restraining Order.
Employer associations from Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana and Ohio sent Congressional leaders a letter last week urging them to implement the Presidential Emergency Board’s recommendations.
“Recent nearby project work has created some instances of unsafe boarding [and] alighting conditions for [Chicago Transit Authority] customers, resulting in unplanned, temporary bus stop changes,” spokespeople for the transit authority said in a statement. “…(C)ertain circumstances are beyond CTA’s control,” the spokespeople said.
A new Manhattan Institute brief argues that criminal justice reformers who backed bail changes in Cook County and the SAFE-T Act in Illinois callously ignore the harmful impacts on lower-income, crime-prone minority communities. “The costs of crime are borne on the backs of individuals, families, and businesses that all too often occupy the least privileged neighborhoods in society.”
