A casual reading of the DeSantis invite on the FOP site could leave an impression that somehow the FOP was a host or organizer, but that is not so. A GOP source told the Sun-Times the DeSantis political team was organizing the law enforcement event in the western suburb – not anyone in Illinois.
“We can be confident that the public education chaos that has come to define Vallas’ career will be exponentially more dangerous the more power he wields. We must ensure that our candidate, Brandon Johnson, is in the run-off for mayor on April 4 so we can, once again, send Vallas packing.”
Cancel culture is alive and well in Chicago’s mayoral race. This time, it’s Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ turn to be “de-platformed.” Mayoral challenger Jesus “Chuy” Garcia is trying to cancel a meeting Monday in Elmhurst between Chicago’s Fraternal Order of Police, which endorsed another challenger, Paul Vallas, and DeSantis. Garcia has demanded that Vallas “condemn” the FOP for the invite to DeSantis, whom Garcia calls “a dangerous and xenophobic authoritarian.”
The decision appears to be the first from a federal judge considering whether the ban comports with a U.S. Court Supreme decision. A federal judge in Chicago has denied a motion seeking a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against Illinois’ assault weapons ban and a similar ordinance in Naperville. U.S. District Judge Virginia Kendall ruled Friday that both Illinois and Naperville’s bans on selling assault weapons are “constitutionally sound.”
The latest independent poll by Victory Research shows Vallas in front with 22.%, followed by Lori Lightfoot at 17.1%, and Brandon Johnson a point behind her. Chuy Garcia and Willie Wilson round out the top five, and no other candidate is in double figures.
