“We have a governor and a Chicago mayor who loudly proclaim that Illinois welcomes anyone, regardless of their immigration status, so they shouldn’t be surprised when they show up,” Chesney added. “They rolled out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants and asylum seekers, and are now pointing fingers everywhere but at themselves.”
Ownership of almost all small businesses had always been private. If their stock isn’t publicly traded, most companies haven’t needed to disclose the identify of owners anywhere. That’s now over for most U.S. companies.
Illinois’ individual income tax has had a moderating effect on Illinois’ otherwise overall high tax burden. It’s been one of the few tax “advantages” Illinoisans have had. But that advantage has been gradually worn down over the years.

We’re not built to handle this. Hopefully, the federal government says, OK, let’s fix this problem.”
The Illinois Department of Human Services’s proposed $87 million budget cut for services for people with developmental disabilities living in group homes could result in fewer residences being available, according to one nonprofit housing provider. At the same time, the state added $72 million to cover increases dictated by the mandatory minimum wage increase that took effect Jan. 1.
One of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s signature priorities — a major tweak to the real estate transfer tax designed to boost funding for anti-homelessness initiatives — has been dealt a significant setback, failing to garner the coveted endorsement of the Chicago Federation of Labor. In a vote last week, a motion to endorse the referendum measure came up just decimal points shy of the two-thirds weighted vote necessary to receive the official backing of the federation, an umbrella organization that represents more than 300 unions in Chicago and Cook County.
