So far this year, 13 people have been shot in the Loop, down from 14 at this point last year. While still high compared to long-term averages, the number of shootings in the downtown neighborhood has fallen from unheard-of numbers experienced during the COVID pandemic. The neighborhood had 34 shooting victims at this point in 2022 and 26 by this date in 2021.

Cities are managed specifically to ensure the application of ideological principles and the maintenance of the partisan status quo. In other words, New York, Chicago, and San Francisco (and practically every city in between) are experiments in liberal-left policies and Democratic machine politics. They are run of, by, and for the machines and their ideological solons, not for the people who live there.

The only presidential contest with a lower citywide turnout was in 1996 when it dropped to 63.2 percent. In that election, then-incumbent President Bill Clinton easily defeated Republican Bob Dole. Interestingly, Chicago hosted the Democratic National Convention at the United Center in 1996 and 2024.

Attorney Dean McGee says that his firm has told CTU that it will dismiss the lawsuit as long as they publish proper audits — or, if the audits don’t exist, that they would be willing to negotiate a “reasonable timeframe” for the union to furnish them. The CTU has signed documents with the federal Labor Department indicating that it has been audited by an outside auditor each year, he adds.
