HB 3363 created the Office of the State Public Defender and made it subject to FOIA, the first time an element of the judiciary is subject to the statute in Illinois. Three otherlaws passed this year weakened FOIA by either adding or extending exemptions.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
