Chicago Flips Red founder Zoe Leigh said Pritzker is the one who is a threat: “He is a threat to the state of Illinois being the governor. Our mayor is a threat to the city of Chicago being the mayor, because they don’t care about the Chicago citizens’ safety. If they did, we wouldn’t be a sanctuary state any more.”

The winning proposal from UChicago graduate students in this year’s Harris Policy Innovation Challenge suggests the city turn a stretch of Michigan Avenue into a pedestrian, cyclist and bus-only zone. They estimated the total cost of the plan at just under $300 million.

The afternoon rally in Evanston by Northwestern faculty will call on the university’s president and board of trustees to defend their students, staff, and instructors. Northwestern’s graduate workers’ union, specifically, has launched a petition drive asking members to commit to collective action to protect non-citizen workers, preserve STEM research funding, defend transgender rights, and protect a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.

The Chicago Public Schools budget hangs in the balance as the Trump administration’s Department of Education goes after diversity, equity and inclusion programming. The turmoil now sweeping public school districts is likely to hit especially hard in Chicago, where the Board of Education has struggled to balance its budget amid governance upheaval and a shift to a partially-elected school board.

The resolution, R2025-0015310, applies regardless of whether an applicant has received clemency or a pardon and takes effect immediately. “You should not be allowed to work for the same government you are attempting to overthrow,” said Ald.
