The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA), the civilian panel responsible for overseeing the Chicago Police Department, has already outlined a list of restrictions most of its members support. Among them: barring traffic stops for plates expired less than a year, improperly displayed or missing front license plates, improper rear license plate lighting, having a single non-functioning head-, tail-, or brake lights during daylight hours, and driving with a loud sound system.

Jim Dey: “Pritzker’s proposed (grocery sales) tax cut didn’t cost the state a dime because it came at the expense of cities across the state — from Chicago in Cook County to tiny bergs in deep Southern Illinois. … As of 2 p.m. June 27, 278 communities had approved a 1-cent-per-dollar grocery-sales-tax increase, according to the municipal league. … More communities, including Urbana, will join that list before the end of the year. Champaign will not. It approved a sales-tax hike, one not aimed solely at groceries.”

Dolton buys Pope Leo’s childhood home for nearly double the asking price – The Independent

The house was originally listed earlier this year for $219,000 after a local property developer bought it for $66,000 to renovate. After Leo stunned Americans and was elected pope on May 8, the seller pulled the home from the market and later announced a luxury auction, with a $250,000 opening bid. The village of Dolton ended up purchasing the property for $375,000. The average house price in Dolton is about $179,000, according to Realtor.com.
