Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Not to worry! Some young entrepreneur, possibly with a criminal record or at least a couple of dropped charges, will soon find some government funded program to help him or her start up that used hub cap shop or nail salon in the abandoned space. It is all part of the business cycle!
How dare a business decide to close and deny the opportunity to be burglarized again and again and not provide the crooks with more free stuff. Shame, shame, shame, the owners must be conservatives.
Chicago is experiencing a systems collapse. The mayor of Chicago and the governor of Illinois want to eradicate law enforcement. Johnson and Pritzker don’t have common sense, especially when it comes to issues like public safety and the economy. Businesses are closing; commuters are being attacked; taxpayers are fleeing. Chicago was always corrupt but once known as the city that works. Now Chicago is known as the city of thieves or the homicide capital of the US.
See the latest Daily Signal message from Victor Davis Hanson on systems collapse.
Add this to the thousands of restaurants that have closed in the last 5 years. The ideology of DEI and CRT has destroyed the city of Chicago.
It is the fine graduates of the CPS who have zero job skills and zero opportunities. Crime is the only thing left for them to do to support themselves. Businesses have left in record numbers. The city is in a serious decline and will stay that way for a long time.
So, rampant crime in Chicago continues to be a cause of businesses closing there; yet, nothing is being done about it. Are other major cities this messed up?
But according to the mayor crime is down or don’t repeated burglaries count? The city probably counts three burglaries as just one event.
Thanks to the demise of the racist walkie talkie on a stick ( SpotShotter ), the reporting of crime is down and an undermanned police force is talking the better part of an hour to respond to calls causing the victims to shrug, hang up the phone and just forget about it. Add in the SJW prosecutors and judges that continually allow felonies to magically become misdemeanors and the “ crime is down “ illusion is complete.
This story is sad and ridiculous at the same time. This is a small business owner who did everything correct. Hardened the shop security, spent thousands to protect their business. Still broken into and robbed. 3 times in two different locations. Small business owners put it all on the line and impacts them profoundly. But hey, the Crime in the City is down. Mayor Pinhead and JumboJB couldn’t care less. As the fatman says…”hey, you don’t like it – move”.
Of course, what JB and BJ should be saying is that they’ll fix this horror show so that people can walk/bike/drive/use transit in Chicago and businesses can operate without constant fear of being crime victims. That’s common sense, but this is Illinois.
Send this story to the mayor and governor, not that they’ll care about it
They don’t even care about murder.
