Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Big kickoff to the summer of joy
This is nothing, just wait until we hit a streak where we are in the 90’s for a few weeks straight. It doesn’t take much to set off the unstable.
The difference between the levels of violence today and the 90’s was that the north and northwest sides were far less gentrified than they are today. There were more bad areas in the city back then and hence, more crime, and if I remember correctly, shootings were double what they are in any given month today. Cabrini Green and the Henry Horner homes (north/west sides) were a massive driver of crimes that spread throughout all of the surrounding areas. But they’re now gone. Lori should have press conference to address rumors and share her plans. I love watching her, she always loses it when confronted by a reporter telling she’s full of it. Ranting and jabbing her finger at everyone. She says McCormick Place is nearly at full capacity! She’s a dangerous nut! For her next trick, she’ll swallow a hairbrush!
