5 takeaways from the Chicago Teachers Union’s latest policy paper – Chalkbeat Chicago

A group of people wearing red carrying posters and a megaphone march on a downtown sidewalk. Among their ideas outlined in the paper (also linked here) is converting vacant schools into mental health clinics and affordable housing. At least one of the vacant school buildings – the former Von Humboldt school – was sold with the understanding it would become affordable housing for teachers.

What’s ironic is that, by highlighting all the ways CPS sucks, CTU is doing themselves a disservice. If all everyone sees and hears is dysfunction, regardless if it’s primarily the district’s fault or not, no one is going to want to buy your product. All their labor strife is amplifying “see how bad we are?!”

CTU is like the assembly line worker at the Ford Pinto plant. Complain about management, complain about the quality of steel, complain about the engineering. Why bother assembling then? Why are you here?

Quickly repurpose any empty school building so that it cannot be used as a CHARTER SCHOOL.

Here’s the gist: CTU realizes their losing the enrollment battle, so now they’re pivoting to “Chicago isn’t welcoming to families, so why would they attend school here?” It’s a classic marketing shift: empathize with the fed-up customer while shifting blame to something out of your control.

Like all progressive communists ideologues, teachers blame everyone but themselves. I refused to send my son to CPS because the teachers are horrible marxists trying to trans my child. I know a handful of people who still send their children to CPS (primarily due to divorce, with the AWFL having custody, still living in City). Their sons and daughters have turned into child progressive activists. I can name, just off the top of my head, three children, under the age of 10, in CPS schools who claim to have switched their genders after receiving indoctrination from CPS teachers, in the… Read more »

Crooked Corrupt Union’s Latest Demand Lists Aims To Pad The Payroll, Shake Down Taxpayers

Buford Pusser Says

I read a comment further down in which the commentor said something to the effect that if Amendment 1 passes teachers will demand a new home. So the teachers are going to ask that a closed school be turned into affordable housing for…….teachers! Who’s gonna pay for the renovations? I imagine taxpayer money will be demanded. A comment that may become a reality.

And no mention of improving math and reading scores … but electric buses?

More garbage from the CTU.

Hey, my kid can’t spell or count the change in his pocket. But thank the Lord he will have a vaccine, a mask , solar panels, an electric bus and lots of union counselors and administrators to help him out. If there were not so many thousands of poor kids getting permanently harmed by this union this package would be suitable for a comedy routine. Given what the state of the public schools in Chicago is this day, this program is sickening.

Here’s a couple of ideas;

1.) As a Public Charge Sanctuary City these closed CPS schools could be repurposed as illegal alien housing. No need for Lightintheloafers to ship them off to the West burbs anymore.

2.) Repurpose them into abortion mills for pregnant CPS students. They could get some “health care” on demand without their parents knowing about it. They could also attend a class on how pregnancy magically occurs.

There, I fixed a potential urban blight issue at no charge.

And off course zero on how to pay for any of this…but as architects of Amendment 1, if it passes, ctu will be out “bargaining” /striking 24/7 over everything on their crazy list in 2 seconds flat.

It’s ctu’s blueprint for everything to “bargain” /strike for once Amendment 1 passes. And Illinois becomes only state in nation to have unelected , pay-to-play, public sec unions setting government/tax policy….this is where we’re headed folks!!! Yikes

Didn’t I say on Wirepoints that closed CPS schools should be converted to SRO’s? CTU is copying my notes.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
