When Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave his state budget address Feb. 19 in Springfield, his words were being closely watched by a group of people who would fall into the description he gave at his State of the State Address the month before: ‘the carnival barkers, the doomsayers, the paid professional critics’ — from left, Elizabeth Bauer, former corporate actuary and the author of Forbes’ ‘Jane the Actuary’ column; Sheila Weinberg, a veteran accountant who is founder and CEO of Truth in Accounting; and lawyer and venture capitalist Mark Glennon and banker Ted Dabrowski, who oversee Wirepoints, a news and financial analysis website.

Remember the cries from the traditional news outlets that Trump’s attacks on a free press endanger democracy? This is no different.

It’s not unexpected that a terrified and cornered government like Illinois will lash out at the speakers of truth. Illinois is in a death spiral and near financial collapse so expect more of this behavior form Pritzker and the IL Democrats. Next they will unleash Kwamie Rsoul onto the press and other speakers of the truth with baseless criminal charges and a few days of time in holding cells. Sorry Ted and Mark, Kwamie will likely toss you into a holding cell for a few days until you “confess” or repent. So…..have a criminal attorney on speed dial and on… Read more »
Ha. Yes, politicians especially dislike people who think that government is, at best, a necessary evil and at worst a tyranny. Democrats don’t like to hear the word tyranny. It has too many syllables and it sounds mean.

“60 Minutes” had a piece about the Flint water disaster. It said that Newark NJ is the next city with a toxic water catastrophe. Cities are in a perfect storm–infrastructure built during the Eisenhower era has passed its expiration date at the same time that cities are broke from unfunded pension liabilities.
Part of the problem may be the fluoridating of our water supply. Check out http://www.fluoridealert.org There are many studies for and against this idea so who knows.
American Water Works among others are buying up municipal water and waste systems, upgrading the infrastructure and eliminating pension hustlers as we speak. Alton Illinois for one sold out in order to partially fund its underfunded pensions. Once again another kick the can down the road approach to the problem.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
