Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
There already are limits on Jabba’s power but he ignores them
Sadly, it appears Pritzker’s and the Chicago Democrats ‘strategy’ is to run Illinois into the ground, and then blame Trump since he won’t/ will not give a Bailout. This is political malfeasance of a kind never seen before in the history of America!
You’re giving JB too much credit. He’s just an idiot surrounded by even dumber advisors. JB is not a smart man – he basically tried to bribe Blago for a job WHILE EVERYONE ELSE KNEW HE WAS BEING WATCHED BY THE FEDS. And he got caught on recording. And Rauner played the ad 100x. And the dumb blue voters of the state don’t care.
I bet Rauner is secretly grateful he doesn’t have to deal with any of this now.
Just read some article on the Trib saying that IL residents overwhelmingly approve of Jabba’s handling of the red death. Something like 69% approve, and “…as for Pritzker’s stay-at-home orders, 93% approved of them, including 75% who said they strongly approved. Another 85% approved of requirements that most businesses close.” The survey was “41% identified as Democrats, 30% as Republicans and 24% as independents.” What world do we live in that 93% of IL residents approved of Jabba’s martial law? What kind of survey has 30% republicans (even hated rauner had only 40% of votes last election) and 24% independents?… Read more »
Sadly, the vast majority of our fellow citizens can’t be bothered to pull their heads from tik tok, twitter, snapchat, etc. They don’t understand simple finance and simple economics, and they certainly don’t want to bite the hand that feeds them. 1) Recall this goof and send him somewhere else, 2) re-open the state in an intelligent and safe way, 3) WAKE UP PEOPLE – stop electing folks who are either incompetent or only concerned about keeping their jobs (re-election). Cannot wait for normalcy so I can get out of this silly state.
I too find these stats/survey wholly depressing.
Good article by McConchie, except: “While virtually all governors have issued a state of emergency limiting commerce or freedom of movement…..”. Nope, not Kristi Noem of SD and her decision has been awesome.
And he wrote this yesterday and said “….thousands if not millions of jobs have been lost…”. Jeez, try 25 million.
And why didn’t HE sue JB Pritzker? Should at least explain.
And if many of the state legislatures are controlled by Democrats, why would they overturn their Governors edicts? They wouldn’t.
Yes….but in IL, a progressive super majority legislature might actually vote to extend the shutdown until next year. I trust the legislature even less than I trust Jabba, and that’s not saying much. At least Jabba was elected statewide – those losers in the legislature were gerrymandered into their offices, many never even have contested primaries or elections. Kind of like the house of lords or whatever, but instead of being full of rich aristocrats, it’s full of paycheck to paycheck losers on the take from various companies in their district.
No he wasn’t elected state wide–it is mainly the Dems in Chicago.
Illinois I do not trust anyone in government.
sure, the election was statewide, even though it was primarily cook county that voted for him, but there were plenty of ‘vote blue no matter who’ votes in lake, will, dupage and kane counties too.
I was happy to open the WSJ this morning and read this editorial from state senator McConchie.
This is what responsbile government is about. To IL Dems in the state I would ask: if the shoe were on the other foot (which it sometimes happens to be at the federal level), wouldn’t you support a system that has checks and balances as well?
