Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. For anyone who cares, the comments over at Capitol Fax, for once, seem to be very skeptical of Lori’s response to this, and some of the regular posters seem to admit that this might qualify as a disaster. I wasn’t expecting that response from Capitol Fax of all places. There’s a bunch of randos commenting too that they are very unhappy with IL’s response to this looting, that still continues, even today.
I do find that interesting. Mostly cannot stand the bent of Capitol Fax commentary.
