Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Gun control will fix the high murder rate
Every day more people die from inadequate/sub-par healthcare than from crime. The difference is they die almost immediately or shortly thereafter from violent crime but it’s often a long drawn out death from sickness and disease. The cost to taxpayers is enormous. No one is addressing the nutritional deficiencies of inner city residents and the population as a whole. I’ve stated this many times before that adequate amounts of Vitamin D/magnesium/Omega 3’s/probiotics which could cost taxpayers maybe 50 cent/day plus the cost of blood work could save the state and taxpayers untold billions. Low Vitamin D and low magnesium are tied… Read more »
You are correct in that certain supplement deficiencies have a big impact on health. In my humble opinion, however, digestive health is even more important. There are some big relationships between the brain and gut coming to light, and some new research on the microbiome (the community of bacteria in the gut). If you consume too much processed foods, carbs and sugar, your gut feeds the “bad” bacteria in the gut, increase the prevalence of those bacteria, and all kinds of maladies occur. I think this is a sleeping giant in the American diet. While I respect that the… Read more »
Agreed. We need to change the entire food landscape. Way too much sugar and salt. In my opinion when HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) replaced basic sugar that changed our health for the worse. Even though they are both sugar HFCS metabolizes quicker in the body. On a label 4 grams = 1 teaspoon so a 20oz mountain dew has 18 teaspoons. 80% of our serotonin is made in our intestinal tract (gut/brain axis) and that has been destroyed by the overuse of antibiotics and to a lesser degree meat we consume who are given antibiotics. Now add in fluoridated… Read more »
Yeah, we’re on the same page! HFCS is probably one of the worst things you can put in your body (other than artificial sweeteners).
I forgot one. MSG! The toxic effects can be overcome by taking Vit A-C-D-E plus curcumin. There are many studies saying that MSG is partly responsible for obesity and reproductive health and many others. Fluoride slows down the thyroid which in turn makes it more difficult to lose weight so people with normal thyroid function eventually end up having hypothyroid. There is a great book entitled “The Devil’s Poison” how fluoride is killing you by Dean Murphy DDS. Thyroid is involved with direct stimulation of the immune system, regulates mood and emotions/regulates cholesterol/works with glucose and oxygen utilization, controls autoimmune reactions(Cytokine Storm?).… Read more »
I remember when Lori came into office. She asserted all kinds of platitudes about how SHE was going to fix this mess once and for all. It was clear that the heavy handed behavior of the police was the real problem. “Community relations” they called it.
What we are seeing, once again, is progressive policy in action.
Good job, Lori. You and Kim Foxx have definitely nailed this.
It seems the right time then to not have police.
So, if we defund the CPD, that number drops to zero?
Yes, exactly. If the police don’t exist to report crimes, then the crimes don’t exist.
