Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. A smart leader of an Italian-American group would say, “As the city removes all the Columbus statues, our organization looks forward to working with Mayor Lightfoot to find a suitable Italian-American replacements. And as a sign of good faith with the Italian American community, we anticipate the city will fund these replacement statues.”
Groups can pay, for their own statues! At the very least have a statue of an Italian American, such as Ms. Cabrini, not Cristoffa Corombo, who never set foot in the US. ?????
