Another Ratings Agency Sounds Alarm About Chicago’s Budget – WTTW (Chicago)

Despite the change in outlook, Fitch affirmed its BBB-negative rating of Chicago’s credit, which is one notch above junk status, but said that could change. “The city’s fiscal plan entails some degree of execution risk,” according to the report, and its success will be determined by “the unpredictable nature of the current economic and revenue environment.”

And remember, everyone. These rating agencies are all paid for by the City itself for initial ratings plus annual updates. So even when you are on the City payroll you can’t erase the stink on this credit. Does anyone really think even the BBB isn’t bought and paid for?

Rating agencies are not your friend. They work for the investors not the taxpayers. They encourage ever rising taxes to support their “marketplace”, a marketplace that trades upon the agony of taxpayers. Budget cutting is averse to both the political class and the bond trading class in Illinois. And by the way Illinois will never, ever be junk. Simply because rating agencies and politicians collude to keep the bonds investment grade yet yielding the highest possible rates, creating more misery for us. This pertains to Rockford. U.S News came out with a newly expanded top 150 best places to live up from 100. Rockford came in #134 bad news Flint came in a notch better at #133. Rockford is also the 14th most dangerous but Flint is the 25th. Rockford is also in the bottom 25% in 13 categories one of which is crime per 100K people.
